Welcome to a winter wonderland of cyber news
Nowadays, more and more devices have the ability to connect to the Internet of Things. Whilst primarily useful, it is important to remember the potential risks that can arise from said devices. This month, with it being Christmas and all, in our main feature ITC’s Kevin Whelan channels his inner Scrooge and reminds us how we can protect ourselves, and our families, from seasonal cyber crime.
We really do like to bang on about our supporter status of the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), so in this issue we’ve included articles from them on staying safe online and avoiding the too-good-to-be-true bargain scam. But don’t take our word for it, have a read. There's also an article covering a guide prepared by the Metropolitan Police and ActionFraud, part of ‘The 12 online frauds of Christmas’ campaign they’re running.
Our expert cyber advisor, Malcolm Taylor, gives comment on the Quora data breach which affected more than 100 million of its users. Once again, big names like Dell, Dunkin’ Donut and Marriott are making headline news and will continue to do so with cyber-attacks on the rise. If you work in the retail sector, then you may want to join us at our Fraud Prevention Forum event on 7th February. The forum will bring together delegates to discuss and gain insight into security and the threats facing retailers, today. For more information or to RSVP, click on the ‘Upcoming Events’ link below.
As everyone keeps reminding us, it’s not “if but when” as far as cyber breaches go. If you are unsure about how to respond to a data breach when that 'worst case' happens, then register to our Cyber Summit on 31st January in the ‘Upcoming Events’ link below. We’ll be running a masterclass on exactly what you need to do and how to respond. It will be a fun but critical exercise, one not to miss. As always, should you need any assistance on anything cyber security related then do get in contact.
We hope you all stay safe this festive season – Happy Christmas!
