Internet access has become ubiquitous, always on.
Gone are the days when you needed to dial-up whenever you wanted to get online – today networks are at risk 24 hours a day. As such, you need to think long and hard about virus protection.
Of course, quality virus protection software doesn’t come cheap, so do you really need it?
Protect your data
Once upon a time major organisations would keep tonnes and tonnes of paper records kept locked away in dusty storage rooms. In 2016 however, many companies keep all of their data locally on hard drives, on internal servers or in the cloud.
Although convenient and much better for the environment, your data will be vulnerable to corruption from threats that can wipe hard drives, shut down networks and spread across the net.
Backing up effectively can allay some of the risk, but there is nothing as effective as keeping an up-to-date virus protection suite.
Save your time
If a virus infects your computer network you are going to have to spend a significant amount of time dealing with it – and we all know that time is money.
Even if it infects just one – or a few – machines in your network, you will need to shut down and disconnect every infected device. This needs to be done before you can start to tackle the virus, as while it is still connected it can be reinfected by other machines on the network.
This can stop you from completing even the simplest of tasks, while if you miss a single infected file, you might have to repeat the whole process again once you’ve reconnected all of the machines.
Costs
It’s true that effective virus protection for the entire company isn’t cheap, but the negative impact of a virus, coupled with the time it takes to deal with it, can end up costing your organisation a lot more.
Reconstruction of data can also be costly, but will most likely be required after a virus has corrupted your files. If you don’t have an in-house IT department (possibly why you also haven’t invested in virus protection) then you may also need to hire expensive experts to do all of this for you.
Professional, effective virus protection software shouldn’t be seen as an expense that can be avoided, rather an investment that will save you more money in the long run.
